Silvia Merler
Head of ESG & Policy Research
Silvia Merler joined Algebris as a research associate in 2019.
She is Head of ESG & Policy Research. Silvia has done extensive research on topics of European political economy, with attention to European macro and financial economics issues, as well as EU institutions and governance.
Before joining Algebris, Silvia served as Affiliate Fellow at Bruegel – Brussels economic policy think tank – and as economic analyst at the European Commission’s DG ECFIN.
Silvia holds a BA and MSc in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University in Milan, and a PhD in European and Eurasian Studies with focus on European political economy at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She has completed the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing, and two Responsible Investment courses offered by the UN PRI Academy.
Guglielmo Villani
Analyst
Guglielmo joined Algebris in 2024 as an ESG & sustainable finance analyst working closely with the equity and credit investment teams.
Prior to joining Algebris, Guglielmo gained work experience at Arwin&Partners on the execution of IR and ESG responsible investment projects. Recently, Guglielmo worked as outsourced consultant in the PMO department at ANIMA SGR managing ESG activities aligned with the Bank of Italy Action Plan on the integration of climate-related and environmental risks within ANIMA business operations and supervisory processes.
In 2019, during his Bachelor in Business & Administration, Guglielmo worked in Azimut Holding SpA as an intern. From 2017 to 2020, Guglielmo graduated in London and San Francesco at Hult International Business School where he impacted actively on the university community as representative board member of Society of Banking & Hult Finance Club.
Guglielmo completed his studies in Boston obtaining the M.Sc in Finance.
Guglielmo is passionate about motorsports and biking. In his free time, he also enjoys practicing calisthenics, swimming and tennis.
Iacopo Esposito
Analyst
Iacopo joined Algebris in 2023 working on green and sustainable equity investments and policy.
Having recently graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a BA in Environment, Energy, and Economics, he is passionate about the nexus between reconciling sustainable development and economic growth and focused his studies on this.
In his spare time Iacopo greatly enjoys biking, both in the city and in the mountains, as well as golfing, which he has been doing since he was 10.
Having lived in several countries, he speaks English, Italian, and French fluently.
